BATTERY PROCESS ENGINEER

JOB DESCRIPTION

Zelos is a fast-paced and team-oriented battery startup located in San Leandro, California. We
are building a rechargeable alkaline technology that can overcome safety, performance, and
cost limitations of lithium-ion for energy storage and backup power applications.

More information about us is below and at www.zelos.energy

We welcome applications for a Battery Process Engineer to play a vital role in battery prototype fabrication at our lab space at the Gate 510 facility, as well as scaling the processes to volume manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate is hands-on, a natural team leader, and able to take on a variety of challenges each day. You will work in a small team of engineers and scientists on battery
engineering, R&D projects and delivery of prototypes to customers. Projects will be focused on
helping to scale-up our process from the lab to the pilot line and to mass production. The successful
candidate is also expected to participate in optimization of cell assembly and improvement of cell
performance as well as in general lab duties. The ideal applicant should have prior hands-on
experience in a wet chemistry lab or with batteries.

Applicants must be comfortable working in a fast-paced and precision-driven lab environment.

These are some of the tasks you will need to perform in this role. As a growing company,
responsibilities will evolve over time.

Responsibilities:

  • Help to transition our process from the lab scale to the small production line

  • Develop, prepare and optimize new slurry coating and electrode production tools
and techniques geared toward manufacturing scale-up (pilot line)

  • Work with the tool and pilot lines vendors

  • Refine and improve existing cell assembly tools and techniques for manufacturing scale-up

  • Run experiments and use statistics to evaluate multiple different approaches and compare the effectiveness of each

  • Collaborate with cell component design engineers and equipment design vendors.

  • Contribute to safety, quality, metrology, and production philosophy to execute our mission

Success Factors:

  •  Embrace new challenges, learn new techniques, and surpass internal goals

  •  Curious, hands-on approach to problem-solving
